Priscilla is in Manila! Visit the Queens at Resorts World!

If you were alive in 1994, when the movie where the play was based was released, you have no excuse not to watch Resort's World staging of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert.

The play follows 2 drag queens and a transexual woman across Australia to be able to perform "where no drag queen has gone before," according to Felicia. Scene by scene, adventures and misadventures come, padded with the music from the lively to the most heart-wrenching renditions of tracks that you've always loved. The soundtrack includes Venus, Go West, I Say A Little Prayer, I Love the Nightlife, I Will Survive, Shake Your Groove Thing, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Hot Stuff, Boogie Wonderland, and Always on my Mind.

Each main character adds their own endearing spice to drag you into the plot. Red Concepcion's perky and carefree Felicia would make you want to love and hate at the same time. Leo Valdez' anxious yet eager Mitzi is a gem of love and courage. Jon Santos' simply elegant Bernadette would outshine even beauty queens.

The secondary characters are not far off. Most notable were Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo and Pinky Marquez, who give life to Mitzi's wife and a punk drunkard. The greatest delight was seeing them as part of the ensemble! The ensemble that never left you in want! Plus, The Divas were like angels who were always there to boost the current song a notch higher.

Costumes leave you in awe, but technicals could have been better. Lighting was good, except for some flickering lights that should have been steady. I found the LED screens to be too bright, even for such a flamboyant show. The show had to go on even if a panel was not perfectly showing images. Sound mixing, too, has room for improvement.

I went to my seat to be entertained, and despite the glitches, I received an ultimate throwback experience on a Thursday night! I write because you have to catch Priscilla this month, I write because these people deserve sold out shows for the remaining of the run:

Yes, it is hat tip to LGBT, but I assure you, it has something for everyone.

Chookas!

Limited Starbucks Hack: Melted Banana Split

Only available for a limited time, you could have Starbucks' version of the melted Banana Split. Just order a Banana Chocolate Frappuccino and ask the barista to add strawberry sauce to your drink. The cup mark should be like this:

You could ask them to blend the sauce or have it swirled right before serving. The Grande costs P170 + P20 for the add-on. One more thing! If you say yes to getting a Frappuccino until May 18, 2014, your receipt gets stamped so that you can get a free upsize the following day for either the Banana Mango, Banana Chocolate, or Banana Strawberry Frappuccino Blended Beverage! Getting your Melted Banana Split today would give you a bigger one tomorrow!

Great Chicken, Not So Great Experience - Zabo Chicken

Our family decided to be decided to be adventurous today and went to a new restaurant in SM City BF Homes ParaƱaque, Zabo Chicken.

The menu was simple and straight to the point. You either get their 18 Spice Chicken + Rice or get a wrap. Sides were Mediterranean and flavorful except for the Chicken Popcorn.

As a hungry party of 3, we got 1 whole Zabo Chicken, Hummus, Falafel, Chicken Popcorn, a Chicken Turna Wrap, 1 Rice Buffet, and unlimited Lavazza. This feast was very reasonable and our bill only reached P800.

The space was well lighted and but the seats and tables were not maintained well for a place that just opened this month. I was cautious in sitting as the seat doesn't seem to support me well. Also, one of our tables has been been already wobbly.

The Chicken Popcorn was bland without any sauce.

The Chicken Turna Wrap was thin, but filling. Their garlic paste is being generously spread in the bread and complemented all the flavors of the wrap. It could have been better if it was not presented in wax paper.

Both the Falafel and Hummus were as expected.

The best part of the feast was, of course, the chicken! Spices were everywhere and the roasting was perfect, that even the white meat parts of the chicken are tender. It would be great for takeout.

Great meals deserve a wonderful ending, but they did not deliver with the coffee. The brewing proportion was bad and it tasted very very diluted. So much for expecting a lot since it was Lavazza. They should probably ask Lavazza again how to brew their coffee correctly.

The food is reasonably priced and the taste is great, but improvements have to be made for me to want to go back.

No After-Credits Scene, Shazam Easter Egg - The Amazing Spider-Man 2

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is on its third day and I've seen several spoilers that weren't exactly spoilers. The average Spidey fan would actually be anticipating it.

The story and chemistry are good enough to incite some audience reaction but it's not one that I would repeat multiple times. Twice tops.

Anyway, as this is a Marvel film, you've got to expect some Easter Eggs. Stan Lee quickly shows up twice in the graduation scene. For a change, this is quite early in the film. Doc Octopus' tentacles are also seen later in the film. Stay a bit during the trailer, but you don't need to see it until the end. Midway through, a trailer of X-Men: Days of Future Past that focuses on Mystique is a treat. But the real treat is using Shazam to during the Alicia Keys song. Make sure you have enough battery and good reception to be treated to this minisite:

The maintenance people confirm that there's no after-credits clip. Enjoy the movie!
